Tester seeing an enhancing variety of network-capable sheet-feed document scanners recently, consisting of the Epson WorkForce ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner we’re evaluating here.

Epson WorkForce ES-500W Review

But the ES-500W is somewhat varied because we seldom see network functionality on an entry-level scanner such as this. (Epson does offer a non-Wi-Fi variation of the ES-500W, the ES-400, for $50 much less.)

The ES-500W is fast for its course, and it conserves to picture and searchable PDF at an excellent clip for the price. Optical personality acknowledgement (OCR) precision is slightly below par, but it comes with a well-rounded software bundle consisting of document and calling card archiving software.

Overall, we found the ES-500W outstanding, but its mediocre OCR precision dinged it simply enough to cause it to find up brief in dethroning the Editor’s Choice Canon imageFormula DR-C225 as our best low-to mid-volume document scanner for a small or mini workplace. However, we also such it as a personal document scanner because the capacity of its OCR precision disappoints the Editors’ Choice HP ScanJet Pro 3000 s3 Sheet-Feed Scanner.

Design and Features

Measuring 6.6 by 11.6 by 6.9 inches (HWD) with its trays shut and evaluating 8.1 extra pounds, the ES-500W is a little bit much shorter. It evaluates 2.1 extra pounds more than the Canon DR-C225’s 8.7 by 11.8 by 6.1 inches and six extra pounds. (Canon also offers a Wi-Fi variation, the DR-C225W, that lists for $150 more significant than the non-Wi-Fi model).

Also, enclose dimension but a bit lighter compared to the ES-500W is the entry-level HP ScanJet 2000 (6 by 11.8 by 6.8 and 5.7 extra pounds). The Brother ADS-2000e (7.1 by 11.8 by 8.7 inches and 7.3 extra pounds) is a little bit taller, much longer, and about an extra pound lighter. As with most sheet-feed document scanners, however, when you prolong the input and output trays, the ES-500W’s (and its competitors’) impact significantly increases in elevation and deepness.

Other Scanner: Epson Perfection V39

The ES-500W and its Wi-Fi-less brother or sister come with 50-sheet automated document feeders (ADFs) and are ranked at 4,000 checks each day. The DR-C225 and the Wi-Fi-capable Canon imageFormula DR-C225W, on the various other hands, come with 30-sheet ADFs and have regular duty cycles of simply 1,500 checks, while the ScanJet Pro 2000, such as the ES-500W, has a 50-sheet ADF, but it is ranked at just 2,000 reviews each day. The ADS-2000e’s ADF also holds 50 sheets, and such as both Canon models, it has a responsibility cycle of simply 1,500 checks.

Of the document scanners mentioned here, the ES-500W comes with one of the most advanced control boards. It is composed of 7 switches and five condition LEDs. The switches are Power, Wi-Fi Protected Configuration (WPS), Wi-Fi on/off, Double Feed Discovery Skip, Slow Setting, Quit, Begin, and NFC (for one-touch scanning to mobile devices).

And the condition lights are AP setting (Wi-Fi Direct), Wi-Fi, Mistake, Automated Feeding Setting, Ready, Double Feed Discovery Skip, and Slow Setting. While it is uncommon to see some of these switches, such as Double Feed Discovery Skip and Slow Setting, on the face of a scanner, their functions mainly talk on their own. The ES-500W is the just scanner discussed here that supports near-field interaction (NFC) and Wi-Fi Direct.
