While multi-function or All-in-one printers are popular for the home user, they are not always the best choice for photo prints. Epson has been creating top-quality picture printers for 15 years and has included the SureColor SC-P400 A3+, solitary function printer, to their profile.

Epson SureColor P400 Review

The SureColor SC-P400 uses seven-color Epson UltraChrome HiGloss 2 pigment inks and an improved gloss optimizer. Pigment inks ensure that prints will have greater lightfastness compared to color-centered inks. The seven inks include; Picture Black, Cyan, Magenta, Red, Matte Black, Orange, and Gloss Optimiser.

Each cartridge includes 14.0 ml of ink. The printer prints on media dimensions from 3.5″ x 5″ up to A3+ plus CD/DVD Tags and 13-inch wide roll media. There’s also a backpacking art media paper course for thicker specialized media up to 1.3mm thick. On impressions, this may be the ideal printer for the lover, so let’s put the SC-P400 to the test.

Installation

Establishing the Epson SureColor SC-P400 is simple; follow the illustrated fast begin guide. Connect in the power line and transform the printer on; after that, install the ink cartridges.

The SC-P400 is provided with a set of guide inks; these are used to prime the publish head and should just be used the first time you use the printer; they can’t be used later on day or once the printer is keyed.

The provided beginner set of inks are not a real indicator of how many prints can be obtained from a typical set of ink cartridges. Tremble each cartridge before fitting; this ensures that the hefty pigment ink bits are distributed.

Each ink port is color-coded, and each cartridge has its molding, so there’s no chance of unintentionally fitting it in the incorrect port. The initialization process takes about 4 mins. Once done, you can install the printer driver and software and connect the printer via USB or Ethernet when triggered.

The packed software consists of Epson Publish CD and Epson Easy Picture publish; you have the option to select the items you want to be installed. The USB 2.0, Ethernet factors, and power link lie behind the printer.

Features

The Epson SureColor SC-P400 features include; auto feeder for media dimensions from 3.5″ x 5″ through to Very B (A3+) 13″ x 19″, roll paper publishing on 13″ size rolls with a 2-inch core. A back manual feed guide is also provided for solitary sheets of art paper. A front manual feed tray offers a straight paper course for media up to 1.3mm thick. CD/DVD tag publishing is feasible with the consisted of the tray.

Connection is via a High-Speed USB 2.0 port or Ethernet, as well as wi-fi Direct. Wi-fi enables you to transmit pictures straight from a wi-fi allowed video cam or a mobile phone; Epson’s free iPrint Application sustains this. Although wi-fi comes in handy for fast pictures, most photographers will not want to publish using a picture modifying Application from their PC.

The top packing media tray stands up to 30 sheets of picture quality paper or 120 sheets of ordinary paper. This is a 3 area telescopic gravity feeder tray with two rubberized holds to avoid paper slippage using large A3 media.

It also forms the top cover to prevent dirt and various other objects from dropping right into the works when broken down. A smooth activity paper guide is used the maintain the paper from skewing; media dimension markings are etched to the back.

Also, at the back, there are ports for connecting both provided roll media owners. This enables you to publish on 13″ wide roll media, ideal for posting panoramic pictures or banners. From previous experience, testers have found it hard to uncurl this media, particularly with prints made from close to completion of the roll; this is because of the little crinkle of the paper; however, installing the patterns into board remedies the problem. A 3 area media catcher goes to the printer’s front; this also folds up away to form the front cover.

The Epson SureColor SC-P400 has a publishing resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi. There are three quality setups to select from within the Printer Properties; Speed, Quality, and Quality options: SuperPhoto, SuperFine and Fine. For our test prints, we used the Quality setting.
